Note: 3/19/2006
UCCBI is not a member of any denomination. There are several churches and denominations in the world who refer to themselves as United Christian, such as the United Christian Church of Cleveland Tennessee. We have no affiliation with them and have no knowledge of their theology or practices. We did not break off from them nor share any resources with them.
UCCBI was formed in 2001 by a group of Christians workers and ministers from several denminational backgrounds. These backgrounds included: Independent Christian Churches, Southern Baptist, Worldwide Church of God, and Lutheran Churches. Our emphasis is placed on Jesus Christ and the practices of the New Testament church rather than on any denomination allegience.
In response to several conversations I have had about UCCBI and our position; let me further define our position: UCCBI is reformed / restored in our theology. Meaning that we take a Bible only approach to the validity of religious practice. We do not care what denomination you belong to, but rather how you personally are obedient to your calling and the word of God. That human opinion and the subsequent arguments thereof are not conductive to Christianity. Where the bible speaks we speak, where the bible is silent we are silent. In essentials unity, nonessentials liberty, and in all things love. Arguments about Calvinism or Arminiasm and the like are not productive. The bible is clear enough to be obeyed without the need to divide in human camps of opinion.
Baptism, communion, evangelism, discipling, laying on of hands can be simply obeyed without the need to be devisive by trying to color these things with human opinion.
Our core teaching is this: you are saved thru faith by the grace of a God a gift not of works lest any man should boast. But we are saved unto obedience not into liberal immorality. As such we should be faithful in our obedience to New Testament scriptural ordinents and commandments. These ordinents are not means of salvation, but rather are fruits of salvation. It is not mankind's opinion that saves.
As such we utilize Standardized Christian texts from many denominations and we do not expect the student to agree 100% with all materials here( but we do expect you to be able to answer the questions based on the course text). This is due to the fact that it is only the essential gospel of Christ and the elementary basics of Christianity that we must be in unified belief (Hebrews Ch 6:1-8), in the non essesentials you will see many different viewpoints though none that would violate the essentials nor promote immorality or blasephemy.
I hope this clarifies our position.
Looking forward to serving you, Brother Skaggs
